Effect of Co addition on the microstructure and creep properties of 12% Cr heat-resistant steels

The effects of Co addition on microstructure and creep rupture properties of 12% Cr ferritic heat-resistant steels were investigated. We found that added Co effectively suppressed the formation of δ-ferrite and the creep rupture strength at 650℃ was gradually increased. The added Co content was observed to improve the amount of W and Mo elements contained in the M23C6 type precipitates, which promoted the precipitation of Laves phase during creep test.At the same time,Co also increased the amount of Nb in the MX carbides and amount of MX precipitation, which suppressed the coarsening of martensite lath width and further precipitates during creep test.
