The Development of Automotive Spare Parts Industry of Henan Province: Challenge and Opportunity
Automotive spare parts industry deserves attention from both entrepreneurs and the Government not only because it play important role in the development of national and local economy, but also because coordinative development of automotive industry and its upstream supply is necessary to ensure rapid and sustainable development of auto industry as a whole. Henan, which lies in Central China,has established spare parts manufacturing as the focus of industrial development in her 11th Five-Year Plan. Firstly, the paper makes an SWOT analysis on internal situation and external environment of spare parts industry in Henan. Previous researches indicate that with the soaring of auto manufacturing sector and policy support from central and local Government, the competitiveness of spare parts suppliers of Henan have been increasing and product line keeps expanding. But the industry is still weak in many aspects and faces challenges. The R&D capability and matching ability with automotive manufacturers are very weak. Foreign companies and domestic spare parts manufacturers in other areas of China are great threat to local enterprises, and the industry is also facing the pressure of rising cost of raw materials and human resource. Finally, the paper reviews the development strategy of industrial clustering, coordination with auto manufacturers, and technology innovation.
