New possibility to utilize ESR for the ingot segregation reduction
Since industrialization at 1958 ESR became worldwide used for forging ingots manufacturing for such application like cold rolling mill rolls,rotors for power generation etc.But even well controlled solidification at ESR can not guarantee acceptable level of ingot quality for segregation sensitive alloys,especially in case of needs of ingots more then 1000 mm diameter and higher.Many attempts were made to overcome nature of solidification by the way of big ingots manufacturing from the several smaller by the various technology of enlargement such as electroslag welding,MHKW and others.Recently it was proposed to adapt technology of electroslag surfacing by means of liquid metal (known as ESS LM)for low segregation forging ingots manufacturing.For that goal detailed results of computer simulation of the process are presented as well as possible ways of process industrialization.
