3-D DC resistivity data inversion for the imaging of a volcanic aquifer,Republic of Djibouti
A full 3D inversion code of DC resistivity data is presented. The objective is to interpret a large number of vertical electrical soundings collected over years in the Republic of Djibouti over a 20x30km area. The purpose of the study is to characterize the geometry of the main aquifer of Djibouti controlled by a heterogeneous network of fractures in basalts. The 3D inversion is based on an iterative procedure using a non-linear steepest gradient method. The forward calculation is made with a 3D finite difference forward modelling (Spitzer, 1995). The resolution of the 3D inversion is tested with synthetic data. Finally, we present the application of the 3D imaging tool on a subset of the data collected in Djibouti.
