Joint inversion of magnetotelluric and gravity data:2-D methodology and synthetic examples
A new algorithm is presented for joint inversion of magnetotelluric (MT) and gravity data. We show that the joint electrical resistivity and density inversion improves significantly the final resistivity model. The gravity data are injected into the inversion procedure after a preliminary MT model was obtained. The joint inversion did not rely on explicit relationships between the resistivity and the density. Instead, we set geometrical constraints, which leads both parameter variations to occur in the same domains. The algorithm is tested on simple 2-D synthetic examples.
