Continuous off-gas analysis system TETHYS(R)at DC-electric arc furnace of Georgsmarienhütte
The inhomogeneous composition of scrap varying from melt to melt is a disturbing factor for melting process in the electric arc furnace. Therefore,an universal valid strategy for the input of oxygen, fossil and electrical energy cannot be the optimum for every melt. For process optimization and process control the off-gas from the DC-EAF is continuously measured by means of the TETHYS off-gas analysis system. The TETHYS off-gas analysis system comprises off-gas sampling from the EAF,gas preparation and analysis by mass spectrometer. The measured gas composition values are the basis for the process model GASCON developed by Georgsmarienhtitte.By means of the online gas analysis and other continuously measured data the GASCON process model provides comprehensive massand energy balances.Especially the off-gas and leakage air flow rates can be determined. Thus an important step has been done for an extensive and integrated model of the melting process in the EAF.For the operators the process becomes more transparency and purposeful actions are possible. The aim is to achieve high productivity and low energy consumption by means of an optimized and extensively automated energy input.
