Fracture analysis on spot weld nugget of advanced high strength steels
This study conducted a facture analysis on spot weld nugget of advanced high strength steel sheets of 590 MPa,780 MPa and 980 MPa grades.The results showed that if the steel sheets have high C,P,S contents,or undergo unsuitable welding procedures,the weld nugget would bring about a low strength brittle fracture,such as interfacial or mixed fracture.This type of fracture is mainly due to weld defects or residual zinc layers.The cracks are mostly originated from shrinkage void or a lack of fusion.The welding cracks could be diminished by alloy composition adjustment and welding with a preheating process.The above two ways all may improve the quality and strength of weld nugget.
