Pilot-scale study of Al-Ti deoxidation behavior in liquid steel during Al killing and Ti alloying
In order to simulate the potentially concurring processes of Al-deoxidation and Ti-alloying in a RH degassing treatment, the inclusion formation during partial de-oxidation of liquid steel by Al followed by Ti addition was studied under an Ar atmosphere at secondary steelmaking temperature (1600-1650℃).The experiments were performed in an induction furnace equipped with an oxygen measurement probe and steel sampler. The steel de-oxidation by the Al and Ti additions and the titanium oxide reduction from Al-Ti-O inclusions by secondary Al-killing are discussed.Specific attention is given to the inclusion size and the compositional correlation between the inclusions and the steel.Approximately 100 × 10-6-200 × 10-6Al is necessary to be contained in the steel prior to the Ti addition for achieving around 500 × 10-6Ti without titanium loss during the alloying process.
