Effect on steel flow in the gas curtain tundish of different porous refractories

The use of gas curtain to control steel flow in tundishes has been a useful approach to attain high steel quality.The gas is injected through porous refractories.So the properties of porous refractories has indirectly affected the steel flow pattern in the tundish.According to the practical parameters of tundish at some plant,the residence time distribution (RTD)and the velocity field in the tundish with gas blowing through different porous refractories are modeled using CFX software.The results indicate that the gas escape velocity increases as the permeability of porous refractory increases at the same gas inject parameters.And the stagnant volume fraction in the tundish decreases,the mixing volume fraction increases while the plug volume fraction and time distribution have no obviously changes.
