Preliminary numerical simulation of shaft process for DRI production
Based on mass and energy balances of gas and solid phases,a one-dimensional kinetic model of shaft furnace process for DRI production was developed.The model was able to satisfactorily reproduce the data from Gilmore Steel Corporation.The calculation results show that,the temperature difference between solid and gas is small in the most part of reduction section of MIDREX(R)shaft furnace.For shaft of 9.75 m height,the wustite reduction occurs in the lower part of 9.0 m,while the hematite and magnetite reduction occurs in the upper part of 0.5 m and 2.0 m,respectively.In the lower part of 2.75 m in shaft depth,the hydrogen concentration decreases rapidly,while the carbon monoxide concentration variation is small.In the upper part of 2.0 m in shaft depth,the hydrogen and carbon monoxide concentrations decrease rapidly.In the rest part,the hydrogen and carbon monoxide concentrations decrease smoothly.
