Blast furnace modeling with layered cohesive zone

This paper presents a mathematical model to describe the behaviour of fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, and chemical reactions in a blast furnace (BF),in which gas, solid and liquid phases affect each other via interaction forces and their flows are competing for the space. In contrast to previous BF models, the layered.cohesive zone is explicitly considered.Process variables characterizing the internal furnace state, such as reduction degree, reducing gas and burden concentrations, and gas and condensed phase temperatures, have been quantitatively described. The model is further applied to investigate the effect of operational conditions such as different burden distributions and top pressures on fluid flow, heat transfer and chemical reactions in the BF.The demonstrated relationships between operational conditions and BF performance show the capability of current modeling.
