A General Model of AC Electric Arc Furnace for Harmonics and Voltage Flicker Studies

In order to estimate the adverse influences and study effective control measures, it is the prerequisite to develop an accurate model of electric arc furnace (EAF). A simple, valid and general simulated model of EAF is presented in this paper. Firstly, the deterministic EAF model is established in MATLAB by using the differential equation based on the principle of conservation of energy, which is useful for harmonics study. Secondly, modulating the deterministic arc voltage directly by using a band limited Gaussian white noise, a stochastic EAF model is established, which is useful for voltage fluctuation and flicker study. Simulation analysis of the deterministic and stochastic EAF model is performed. The results accord with the dynamic characteristic of an actual EAF system, so the model is proved to be valid.
