Research of the Quadrature Amplitude Modulation Based on Chaos Carriers
A novel communication amplitude/demodulation scheme based on an orthogonal basis of chaotic functions is proposed. The scheme, that we call quadrature chaos amplitude modulation (QCAM), is derived from quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), but replaced the sinusoidal carrier with chaotic signal. Chaotic signals are periodic, wide-band, and more difficult to predict, reconstruct, and characterize than periodic carriers. These properties of chaotic signals make it more difficult to intercept and decode the information modulated upon them. On the other hand, the QCAM has the better error character than quadrature chaos shift keying (QCSK). The price for the performance enhancement is the problem of chaos carrier synchronization in transmitter and receiver.
