A Modified CMA for QAM Signals

The constant modulus algorithm (CMA)family methods are very popular methods for quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) blind equalization. The CMA-family cost functions estimate the signal modulus by one constant modulus, this is not true for many multiple modulus QAM signals. Therefore the instantaneous error will not equal to zero even when the recovered signal is exact equal to the source signal. In this paper, a new approach for blind adaptive equalization for QAM signal is introduced to eliminate the modulus estimation error. By partitioning the high order constellation into some sub 4-QAM signals, the constant modulus property of 4-QAM signal is employed in the proposed method so that the modulus estimate error can be avoided. The new method achieves smaller MSE than the existed CMA-family methods, meanwhile, this method reduce the convergence time.
