Progressive Image Transmission Scheme Combining DPCM and Wavelet Transform
In order to realize progressive image transmission in DPCM scheme, a DPCM-based lossy-tolossless progressive image compression and transmission scheme is proposed. The method consists of two phases: the first phase makes use of traditional DPCM algorithm transmitting a low-resolution approximation of the image. An adaptive predictive approach based on Markov model is proposed when DPCM predicting. The second phase is a progressive transmission phase that sends further quantitative errorstherefore the low-resolution image can be then progressively improved with this further information. This phase firstly decomposes the quantization errors by wavelet transform, then employing a low-complexity classification method to separate wavelet transformed quantization errors into multiple teams according to local frequency feature, so that progressive transmission becomes possible. The experimental results show that the presented method could refine the approximation image as quickly as possible because of the use of Markov model and wavelet transform.
