Internet Congestion Control Using Global Sliding Mode Control Algorithm

As for the problem of congestion control in the Internet, an active queue management (AQM) algorithm based on global sliding mode control (GSMC) theory is proposed. By designing an asymptotically stable sliding surface, we make the system motion be on the sliding surface from the initial time instance. The proposed global sliding mode controller makes the system motion always remain in the sliding surface. So the algorithm is insensitive to uncertainty throughout an entire response. Moreover, the proposed algorithm can effectively alleviate chattering, so the controlled object, namely, the queue length in router can quickly converge to the desired value with very low oscillation. Simulations are done in different scenarios. The results show that the proposed algorithm has better stability and robustness than common sliding mode control algorithm.
