EFFECTS OF TRANSPORT TIME UNCERTAINTY ON INVENTORY LEVELS
Freight transport time is usually used as an important measure to evaluate a particular transport choice. In supply chain management freight transport time is generally considered as a deterministic factor. In practice, however, this is not true. In this paper in order to find out effects of freight transport time uncertainty on inventory levels, an inventory state equation will be presented to describe dynamic change of inventory level, in which freight transport time is included. And based on the inventory state equation effects of freight transport time uncertainty on inventory levels will be analyzed. Since probability distributions of freight transport time are not normal distributions, it is proposed that higher-order moments of freight transport time is used in inventory control.
