THE OBJECTIVES AND CHARACTERISTICS OF FACILITY LOCATION PROBLEMS: A LITERATURE REVIEW
Facility location decision is one of the most important strategic decisions for nearly every private and public companies. Macroeconomic, political, strategic, technological, infrastructure, competitive and logistical and operational factors make this decision full of complexity and challenge. Thus, hundreds and thousands of investigators have been attracted to focus on both algorithms and formulations in this field. We review here the many facets of this exciting field through reference to both seminal works and current reviews. In this paper, we distinguish the literature by their characteristics: objectives, space, discrete or continuous, deterministic or stochastic, static or dynamic, single-stage or multi-stage, single-product or multi-product, etc.
