Simulation of Leachate Migration in MSW Landfills
The clay-solidified grouting curtain (CSGC) is constructed in municipal solid waste (MSW) landfills to prevent the leachate leakage. Based on the analysis of retardation mechanism of CSGC, a coupling mathematical model for leachate migration was developed to predict the seepage quality of leachate and the distribution of contaminant in MSW landfills. The results indicate that leachate seepage through CSGC is controlled by permeability and thickness, which reduce with the reducing of permeability and decrease with the increasing of thickness. The CSGC has strong retardation capability for contamination, and the retardation ratio of single row grouting holes curtain with the thickness of 2 meter is lower than that of two rows grouting holes curtain with the thickness of 3 meter. Therefore, the CSGC with a proper thickness might serve as an effective vertical barrier against leachate migrates in MSW landfills.
