Fire Safety Analysis for the Non-provision of Sprinkler System in a Treatment Room

Fire safety has become one of the major concerns not only for the government but also for the public. Hospitals are examples of cases where the safety is considered critically. In order to assess the safety level, fire risk analysis is an essential way for this type of building. A case study on a treatment room without provision of sprinkler system was carried out. The objective of this study was to evaluate the fire risk level of a treatment room without provision of sprinkler system and to propose enhanced fire safety measures to meet the performance requirements of building regulations. Fault tree analysis was adopted to identify the probability of fire spreading out of control. On the other hand, the consequence of fire and smoke spread was also studied using CFD simulation. The results indicated that the enhanced fire safety design may serve to maintain the fire safety levels of the treatment room at reasonable levels.
