Analysis of Transport Economy of Scale and Its Crises of Bullwhip Effect
Transport economy of scale helps to reduce the unit cost of product by using batch transportation. But excessive use of economy of scale may cause some side-effects. After analyzing the transport cost in economy of scale, we explain its influence on replenishment lead time. Furthermore, the co-effect of batch ordering policy and lead time as well as their impact on bullwhip effect are clarified. Finally, we describe the lead time and bullwhip model to illustrate the vast impact of lead time on bullwhip effect.
