Risk Assessment of Aeolian Sand Disaster on Lake in Sandy Area of Inner Mongolia

It is very important to prevent lake from sand encroachment induced by aeolian sand disaster (ASD) for water resources conservation and the ecology-sound land use system. This study investigated the structure and function system of ASD by systematic analysis, then index system and classification standard for comprehensive risk assessment were proposed. A case study was done in Inner Mongolia of northern China, and the results indicated that nearly 70% of the lakes receive the hazards of ASD and 45.5% lakes are seriously affected. It suggests that human disturbance responds to ASD significantly, and ways to reduce risk of ASD include regional land use optimization and engineering measures.
