Top Management Team Composition and R&D Intensity of Chinese Firms
Drawing on the executive demography and the upper- echelons perspectives, this paper examines the relationships between top management team (TMT) composition (age, educational level, tenure, functional background and stock ownership) and firm R&D intensity. The study is based on a sample of 172 Chinese listed firms in the manufacturing sector. Findings indicate that firms with higher levels of R&D intensity are likely to have TMTs composed by shorter organizational tenures, more output functional background. TMTs age, educational level, and stock ownership have no effect on R&D intensity.
