Direct Measurement of Impaired Erythrocyte Deformability on an Inter-Channel Microfluidic Device
A novel method using inter-channel microfluidic device for erythrocyte deformability measurement is presented here. With good deformability, erythrocyte can be absorbed in the filters which locate between two channels in microfluidic device. At the same time, the leukocyte can not be absorbed for its weaker deformability. Thus, the measurement of erythrocyte deformability can be operated without pretreatment. As a demonstration, different impaired erythrocyte deformability was investigated. Such a microfluidic method has shown its advantages of handling simply, little samples, and without pretreatment of blood. Also, it has the potential application in clinic diagnose.
