Preparation of Biocompatible PEG Microsphere Using Microfluidic Systems
This study demonstrated a simple method for the generation of monodisperse PEG microspheres in situ using microfluidic system. Emulsions of pre-polymer are uniformly formed in microchannel as immiscible phase. And then synthesis of the PEG microsphere was achieved in situ by the photopolymerization in the microfluidic device. PEG microspheres could be fully cored in very short exposure time (75ms). In addition, the size of microsphere can be precisely tuned by operating the flow rate in microfluidic system, ranging from 60 to 95μm. Finally, the obtained microspheres showed that narrow size distribution with high monodispersity (CV=1.3%).
