A study on the behavior of media selection in distributed working

The behavior of media selection in IT companies in China and Japan was analyzed using a framework of media fitness. The analysis included rational, social, and environmental aspects, therefore, more comprehensive than previous research. Combined media usage was analyzed and strong positive correlation between choice based on rational thinking and that based on social influence was found. Furthermore, complementary media were found to be used to satisfy the rational needs and to release environmental limitations, but not to raise the social satisfaction. Findings in this research might lead to the change of previous theories about media selection.
