Business idea identification and evaluation-experiment management in practice
The ramifications of companies especially in the high-tech sector are characterised by an increasing dynamic and complexity. Hence, existing markets, business segments and products are threatened by disruptive innovations and fast changing customer behaviour, expectations and needs. Therefore, the need to identify successful business ideas is getting more and more important to stay competitive and to ensure the survival of the company. Experiment management can be seen in this context as a possibility to cope with the existing challenges. Serial-entrepreneurs illustrate outstanding examples in the field of experiment management especially in the process of opportunity recognition, business idea identification and evaluation as they realise several ideas in a successful way. Qualitative, explorative, structured interviews were conducted to see whether a unique pattern of serial-entrepreneurs in the business idea identification and evaluation exists. Seven serial- entrepreneurs participated within this study while the interviews were conducted from September till November 2006 and had in average a length of almost one hour.
