A framework for measuring managerial efficiency
Managerial efficiency,measuring the effectiveness of production management,is defined in this study as the ratio of the management performance score to that of potential score determined by a management frontier. It reflects the ability of a firm to achieve the best performance of management in the state of current management pattern. This measurement can be evaluated within a framework which is similar to that used to identify the technical inefficiency in the production. The input and output will be replaced by the performance score of management in base and current period respectively. Moreover,an iterative two-stage approach is provided to obtain both management frontier and the efficiency measure. To illustrate this idea,the proposed methodology is applied to evaluate the managerial efficiency of Chinese industry in 2005.
