The Impact of Difference of Manufacturing Practices between Chinese and USA on Product Innovation
Innovation is regarded as a crucial factor for survival and competitive strength of organizations. Product innovation is one of the most important forms of innovation. It roots in new concepts or new ideas, but depends deeply on progress of manufacturing practice. This paper uses dada from International manufacturing strategy survey (IMSS) to discuss the impact of manufacturing practices on product innovation. We found that degrees of application of Chinese firms are lower than USAs in manufacturing practice as a whole, for instance,Chinese firms has more organization levels, less amount of suppliers and clients, lower degree of application in advanced manufacturing technology (AMT). The results with Structural Equation Model (SEM) indicate that past manufacturing practice adopted has obvious impacts on product innovation in US firms, but Chinese firms has not.
