Technology licensing with network effect

This paper studies technology licensing by means of a fixed-fee in a Cournot-duopoly market with network effect,where one of the firms has a cost-reducing innovation. It is found under non-drastic,holding patent firms equilibrium quantity and profit increase with the strength of network effect. But for other firm,only when the magnitude of innovation is less,its equilibrium quantity and profit increase with the strength of network effect,if the magnitude of innovation is more,its equilibrium quantity and profit will decrease with the strength of network effect. Holding patent firm will license its innovation to other firm if and only if the magnitude of innovation is in a given bound,and the fixed fee increases with the strength of the network effect. In particular,holding patent firm will become a monopoly when the innovation is drastic.
