Design and Development of a Self-powered Street Light with Water Power Generator and Solar Cells
An original generator was developed, using rare-earth permanent magnets and coreless coils. The coreless coil generator means that the core in side the coils are in air without materials like steel, and cogging torque, therefore, is zero. If the cogging torque is zero, wind power generators can rotate even under a very weak wind condition. At the begging, design and development of the coreless coil generator, and an application of the generator to water power generator is described. Combining the water power generator with solar cells, self-powered electricity can be obtained. The system can be used for street lights. Because big earthquakes are expected in the coming 30-40 years at the probability of 40-50% in around south part of Japan, the self-powered lights need in a disaster occurrence. In Kochi, there are a lot of water flow locations, and we considered to utilize water for water power generation.
