Advanced Feed Water and Cooling Water Treatment at Combined Cycle Power Plant

Tokyo Gas Yokosuka Power Station is an IPP combined cycle power plant supplied by Fuji Electric Systems Co., Ltd. in Japan. This power plant applies the following advanced Water Chemistry that is mainly intended to minimize environmental impact. The plant has been in commercial operation since June 2006. 1. Feed water treatment in a combined cycle In combined cycle plants, there are different possible ways of chemical treatment in the steam water cycle. Depending on the plant design, the planned method of operation and environmental issues may influence the right choice for chemical treatment. For the combined cycle power plant at Yokusuka, AVT (all volatile treatment) was selected. 2. Treated sewage application for condenser cooling water A circulating cooling water system that uses treated sewage from sewage disposal plant as its make-up water was adopted with treated sewage concentrated into about five cycles during cooling tower circulation. Treated sewage has recently been widely utilized in many fields, though in many cases it is used for once-through cooling. It is still rare, however, to use treated sewage in a highly concentrated condition as in cooling tower systems.
