Influence of Two-Way Operation on Performance in Horizontal Axial-Pumping Systems
The horizontal axial-pump systems with Two-way operation is used extensively in pumping stations for draining water and water supply, because it has the characteristic of operating convenience and higher efficiency comparing with other pumps. The performance and the flow structure of pumping systems at the bidirectional operation relative to that of single-way operation is different particularly. The article described the numerical investigation of the three-dimensional flow inside a horizontal axial-pump systems on dual-directional operation, based on the Reynolds time-averaged N-S equations and the RNG k-ε turbulent flow model, applied the law-of-wall, sliding mesh technique, SIMPLEC method of pressure-velocity coupling and second order upwind. The head, capacity, efficiency of pumping system was predicted, and comparing with the experimental results. In the straight diffused outlet channel without guide vanes, there are the axial-whirling flow and the annular whirling flow which are caused by the outlet circulation and the diffused channel, and the whirling flow is strengthened as a result of diffuse flow, and there is more loss of head in discharge diffuser of the channel. The performance of pump station at best operation is similar to the experimental results.
