RES Induced for Combustion Optimized Control and Low NOx Emission in Thermal Power Generating Units

Traditional combustion control strategy has been meliorated by introducing Radiant Energy Signal(RES) into combustion control loop, which is based on flame image processing method in thermal power generation units in this paper. A short description of the classical control is given, and one of the root causes of deviation is mainly due to the different response characteristics of leading and inertia control. In addition, the destabilization can’t be overcome, owing to the pure-delay and large-lag from the alternation of coal quality and/or quantity to caloric value signal. Combustion behaviors can be detected by RES transiently, and stable steam temperature, load and steam pressure are obtained because of the rapid response of RES. The new industrial scheme is proved to be practical with in-situ experimental results. The result shows that the dynamic response characteristic of RES is ideal to improve the combustion control quality of the unit, such as boiler efficiency and NOx emission. This is a feasible strategy which has been successfully applied in several power plants.
