BIOCOVER - Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Landfills by Use of Engineered Bio-covers
Greenhouse gas mitigation at landfills by methane oxidation in engineered biocover systems is believed to be a cost effective technology but so far a full quantitative evaluation of the efficiency of the technology in full scale has not been carried out. An EU LIFE III funded project, BIOCOVER, has the objective of documenting the construction and efficiency of an engineered biocover system. The status of the ongoing project is given where the initial landfill characterization and the baseline study of the methane emission has been finalized and the biocover system is close to be finally established.
