Study on Formaldehyde Degradation Using Strong Ionization Discharge

Along with the national economy continually development, the formaldehyde pollution problem is increasingly serious, the traditional methods, for example, adsorptive method, condensing method, oxygen flask method, biodegradation method and so on, already could not be completely satisfied to the developing need. It urgently needs to research and develop a new degradation technology. In this paper, a majority of gas molecules in the air such as O2 and H2O are ionized and made into OH· of high concentration by using strong ionization discharge method. Under the condition of normal temperature, non-catalyst and non-absorbent, Formaldehyde is directly oxidized into CO2 and H2O in the plasma reactor without the second pollution. This paper discusses the degradation mechanisms of strong ionization discharge, and some factors that influence the Formaldehyde removal efficiency, such as initial concentration, gas flow, residence time, and applied voltage.
