Investigation on the Salt Water Simulation of Heavy Gas Diffusion

Heavy gas released in accidents is a serious pollution and menace to local citizen. It is desired to understand the details of the heavy and toxic materials diffuse in order to depress the pollution and organize the rescue. A series of simulation experiment are conducted and the results are analysis with an initial similarity analysis between heavy gas movement and that of salt water and our qualitative similarity criteria. Several different zones or stages are discussed to identify the driving force and clarify the limitation of salt water simulation. It shows that the first stage of the heavy gas diffusion is controlled by the initial momentum and the gravity, and then the diffusion comes to the second stage in the domain of concentration boundary layer near the ground, which is a process of concentration diffusion. The diffusion will be governed by the momentum air flow when wind exists. It is important to consider if the similarity criteria be matched with the diffusion property.
