Purification of Unstable State Waste Gas Contain Toluene with Adsorption and Biodegradation

Biotrickling filter (BTF) for air pollution control is expected to encounter fluctuating conditions or periods without pollutant supplying. Considered toluene as typical volatile organic compounds (VOCs), processing set-up was improved by adding an adsorption column and the effect of adsorption operation on biotrickling filter for purifying unstable state toluene was investigated. The adsorption columns were filled active carbon fiber (ACF) and granular active carbon (GAC) adsorbent and the buffer capacity of them were compared. The results showed better bio-film activity was kept when an adsorption column was added before the biotrickling filter. ACF is a better adsorption material than GAC.
