Study on Mathematic Model of Extraction of Extracellular Polymeric Substances Using a Cation Exchange Resin
The mechanism about extraction of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) using a cation exchange resin was analyzed and the relationship between the extraction amount and the resin dosage, extraction time, stirring intensity, initial activated sludge concentration were described by the mathematic model: Y=1000a(1-exp(-BACKt)) in this paper. By Origin soft ware (version 7.0) analyzing, theoretical value and experimental value had no significant difference at the degree of confidence 95%. The constants a=14.7% and K=1.45×10-5 mL/(mg·rpm·h) were obtained by fitting the regression equation. The constant (a) could indicated that the theoretical content of EPS was approximately equal to 15% of the sludge dry weight. Considering experiment condition, the amount of extracted EPS could exceed 90% of the theoretical content based on the model.
