Removal of Organic Pollutants from Micro-polluted Source Water by O3-BAC Process

In this paper the characters of the Micro-polluted Source Water and the mechanism of the ozone-biological activated carbon (BAC) were introduced. The condition parameters of O3-BAC process were confirmed by the tests, such as ozone dosage, reaction time and empty bed contact time(EBCT) of BAC. Besides some routine tests, water quality was analyzed by Ames test and GC/MS test. The results indicated that the raw water from the river showed positive for TA98 strain and for TA100 strain while the effluent showed negative for TA98 strain but positive for TA100 strain. It was showed that 119 kinds of organic pollutants have been detected in the raw water and 6 kinds in the effluent. Therefore, the O3-BAC process can be used as an effective treatment for micro-organic pollutants and can offer safe drinking water with high quality. Meanwhile, the influence of temperature was investigated. The test showed that the bio-activity of BAC was reduced with the decline of temperature, and biomembrane forming was influenced badly by low temperature.
