Calculation of Water-Pollution-Induced Economic Losses of China
Based on the model developed by the author1, this passage takes the “10 large subareas of water resource in china as a spatial unit of the calculation and 1998 as a benchmarked year, calculates the national water-pollution-induced economic losses. The results show that the losses induced by water pollution in China are quite serious, and the total economic costs of the four sections, industry, agriculture, civicism construction and human health of China induced by water pollution in 1998 are about RMB 2475 billion (US$ 300 billion), equally 3.1% GDP of the country, in which the influence to industry is the highest, second agriculture, next human health and civicism construction. The proportion of separated economic costs to total losses of them are 41.8%, 28.9%, 26.1%,3.2%, respectively. That means there is an urgent demand to calculate the economic costs induced by water pollution in China.
