Study on Bioremediation of Polluted River Water by Biofilms
The Qingchun river water was heavily polluted by organic matter and ammonia-nitrogen. Bioremediation of the river water was carried out by biofilms-coagulation method in this research. The non-toxic nutrients, such as glucose and ethanol, were introduced to the river water as bioavailable carbon source, respectively, to improve the bioremediation by biofilms. The effect of biostimulants on the bioremediation by biofilms was also studied in this research. The results obtained indicate that ammonia-nitrogen could be remarkably removed by biofilms. The removal efficiency of ammonia-nitrogen reached 80%. But COD in the river water cannot be effectively removed only by biofilms. The COD in effluent from biofilms process can be effectively removed by coagulation. COD in the river water treated by biofilms-coagulation conformed to the first-rate quality according to China national water quality standard for surface water. The results obtained also show that a small quantity of nontoxic and bioavailable carbon source (such as glucose and ethanol) and biostimulant can play a positive role in bioremediation by biofilms.
