Effect of COD on Denitrification Process Inhibiting Sulfate Reduction
Preliminary experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of COD on the denitrification process inhibitting sulfate reduction. The experimental results showed that COD is an important ecological factor in the system, directly influencing the metabolism of NO3- and SO42-, as well as the production of S2- and NO2- .When COD was 120mg/L, there was a competition for carbon source between SRB(sulfate reducing bacterium) and DNB(denitrifying bacteria), resulting in the inhibiting of sulfate reducing. When carbon source was sufficient, S2- was increased then decreased with the increase of COD, and reaching the top value at later time at high COD. There was different accumulation of NO2- at different COD. It is found that when the concentration of NO2--N exceeded 2mg/L in the system, NO2- was the main reason of inhibitting sulfate reducing, reducing the production of S2-, and inhibiting the activity of SRB.
