Reuse of Municipal Solid Waste Incineration Fly Ash in Ceramic Brick

In this work, macro-performance and leaching toxicity of ceramic bricks using MSWI fly ash (municipal solid waste incineration fly ash) as a blending were studied. It is found that ceramic bricks, with 25% fly ash added and sintered between 960℃ and 1000℃, register compressive strengths between 20.1 Mpa and 18.2 Mpa, and water absorptions between 7.3% and 6.7%. Besides, the bricks show excellent resistance against leaching, in accordance with HVEP standard, of heavy metals with Cd and Hg below the low detection limit, Pb<0.0141ppm and Zn<0.138 ppm. These results as a whole suggest that reuse of MSWI fly ash in ceramic brick is a potential means of adding value.
