STRESS CORROSION CRACKING BEHAVIORS OF 2205 DUPLEX STAINLESS STEEL IN HYDROGEN SULFIDE SOUR ENVIRONMENTS

The electrochemical and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) behaviors of the 2205 duplex stainless steel in sour H2S and H2S + CO2 environments have been investigated by SSRT, soaking U bend specimens and potentiodynamic polarization curve measurements. The results show that 2205 duplex SS has a good resistance to SCC in hydrogen sulfide sour environments. The sensitivity to SCC increases with pH value loared and concentration enhanced, and pH value has more influence to 2205 SS. When the pH value is 4.5 or more than it, the susceptivity of 2205 is very low under normal temperature and pressure, and it is affected little by the concentration of H2S; The existence of CO2 can increase the sensitivity of 2205SS to hydrogen sulfide stress.
