Secure Cluster Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks Based on Chaotic Encryption

Many protocols for wireless sensor networks (WSN) are not designed with security as a goal. The security mechanisms for traditional networks are not directly applicable to WSN. This paper proposes a secure cluster routing protocol based on chaotic encryption as well as conventional symmetry encryption scheme. We mainly concentrate on the process of secure communication. Considering the limited resource of WSN, a simple chaotic map function is adopted. Most of data communication is encrypted by chaotic keys except the initialization by base station. Chaotic keys have high security and are insusceptible to disclosure. Cost is also low. Analysis shows that the secure protocol is a tradeoff between resource and security.
