Fate of trace dements in the pedosphere: Venice region, northern Italy
This paper deals with the study of the fate of trace elements in agriculture and forest soils of the Venetian territory (NE Italy), aimed at estimating the potential environmental risk. Chemical and statistical analysis allow identification of heavy metal distribution patterns. The soils investigated have heavy metal concentrations that are generally within the Italian guidelines. Exceptions are anthropogenic Cu and Zn in agricultural soils, Cd and Pb at forest sites and at a mineralized area. Four main factors acidity, redox conditions, organic mater and soil hydrology are responsible for the mobility of metals in the environment.
