Mobilisation of arsenic in soils affected by the application of phosphorus
Application of phospborus at various levels significantly increased the arsenate and arsenite content in both soils with the progress of submergence, being greater amount with higher levels of phosphorus. Application of phosphorus at 40mg·kg<- 1> in combination with arsenic at 20mg·kg<-1> recorded highest arsenate content of 7.60 and 13.23mg·kg<-1> respectively in Gotera and Nonaghata soils at 28 days after incubation, being 40.48 and 8.88% increase over that of control, As<,20>P<,0> (no application of phosphorus). However, the highest mean arsenite content was recorded as 6.00 and 8.03mg·kg<-1> in Gotera and Nonaghata soils respectively due to 40mg·kg<-1> phosphorus application, but combined applications at their highest levels at 28 days of incu- bation recorded 27.41 and 8.51% increase over that of control, As<,20> P<,0> (no application of phosphorus) respectively in both the soils.
