Effects of soil amendment with compost on cadmium uptake in rice seedlings
Compost being added in contaminated soits could reduce the phytoavailability of cadmium (Cd). The intent of this study was tc investigate the Cd uptake in rice seedlings affected by soil amendment with compost and associated with the changes of Col adsorption behavior due to compost application. For three selected soils (Pc, Tk and Cf), Cd adsorption at any equilibrium concentration increased with the increasing level of compost application. The concentration of Cd in rice seedlings correspondingly increased with increasing level of Cd addition. Compost application, however, decreased the concentration of Cd in plants, theeffects being more pronounced at the higher level Cd added in soils.
