Trace elements in a periurban vegetable production area near Kunming (Yunnan, PR China): soil contents and risk assessment

Due to high natural background and human contaminations, trace elements (Pb, Zn, Cd, and Cu) contents are quite high in cultivated soils of the periurban area of Kunrning (Yunnan, PR China). This was notably observed in the vegetable production area of the Chenggong County located dose to the eastern side of the Dianchi Lake. Within the framework of an international research project, we have described the geomorpho-pedological context of the site, and the relations between soils (type and spatial distribution) and their trace elements contents. Excessive TE contents in soils are often but not always linked to excessive contents in vegetable, according to legal Chinese thresholds. Risk assessment issues and possible ways to solve this problem were discussed according to first experimental results.
